Step 2: Which formula should we use?

Step 3: Calculate and include the unit.
8 x 5 x 3 = 120.
Why: Volume uses cubic units, so the unit is cm^3.
Common mistake: Writing cm or cm^2 instead of cm^3.
A student says 6.4 x 10 = 6.40. Is this correct?
Step 1: What does multiplying by 10 do?
It makes the value ten times larger.
Why: Multiplication by 10 changes the place value of each digit.

No. 6.40 has the same value as 6.4.
Why: Adding a zero after the final decimal digit does not change the value.
